Puraflo Peat Fiber Biofilter Approved For Use as a Tertiary Polishing Filter in Manitoba
Anua’s environmentally sensitive Puraflo wastewater treatment system ideal for residential, small community/commercial applications
Greensboro, N.C. (February 16, 2012) – On July 27, 2011, Mike Gilbertson, Director of Environmental Services Branch of Manitoba Conservation, approved the use of in-ground and mounded pads for the dispersal of Puraflo peat fiber biofilter effluent throughout the province of Manitoba, Canada. More recently, on January 24, Donna Smiley of Manitoba Conservation approved Puraflo modules in a polishing filter configuration.
According to Colin Bishop, REHS, RS, director of sales and government relations at Anua, “Aerobic Treatment Units (ATU) are designed to meet secondary standards. Pristine waters, watersheds or environmentally sensitive areas typically require high level treatment and effluent by-pass protection. The flexibility with Puraflo is that we can ‘bolt-on’ the modules after an ATU to provide tertiary treatment and the by-pass protection offered by a media filter. Since the Puraflo is receiving effluent from an ATU, rather than a septic tank, the hydraulic loading rate to the modules is increased. This provides the owner with a compact, robust treatment solution.”
Using a unique peat-fiber media, Puraflo is one of the highest performing, most reliable wastewater treatment systems on the market today thus doing more to keep the headwaters flowing from Canada south, clean.
Key product benefits include: flexible phasing options to reduce upfront costs, low maintenance needs, low operating costs and environmentally-sustainable media for use in residential, small neighborhood, intermittent use and commercial applications.
The odorless system is highly efficient and virtually silent, and its minimal maintenance and power consumption needs mean low total costs for homeowners.
As a polishing filter, Puraflo’s unique fibrous peat media reduces the level of biological oxygen demand (BOD) and total suspended solids (TSS) in the effluent to ≤5:5 mg/I BOD:TSS. Additional benefits are high level nitrogen and pathogen reductions.
The Puraflo wastewater treatment is Anua’s leading wastewater treatment product. Anua is a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of wastewater treatment systems in the U.S. for nearly 20 years. Anua also manufactures a full line of water reuse, rainwater harvesting and odor control equipment for residential, commercial, municipal and industrial applications.
